Materials
Every product by Mariclaro is handmade in Toronto. Of the materials, 99% has been intercepted on the path to the landfill (1%is made of notions and our logo, still unavailable in recycled). The materials are sourced mainly from within 500km, in Canada.
We redefine the function of materials that are at the end of their original lifetime and give them another. By significantly extending the lifetime of materials, we reduce new material production, minimize and prevent waste through reducing the consumption of resources.
Our strength lies in the diversity of materials we work with. In scrap yards we cut upholstry, seatbelt and airbag out of cars before they are crushed. We also collect bike tubes, transport truck tarp, sails, furniture upholstry bound for the lanfill from various local companies. We are always on the look-out for new, durable materials to use in our production.
Certain materials have more connection to the car they came from, or are extremely rare. These are part of our Limited and Special Edition lines.
Lines
We focus mainly, but not exclusively, on the production of bags and accessories. We also design a clothing line, and because we love bikes, a bike line. A little bit away from fashion and accessories, from time to time we work on other projects like lamps and clocks - we call them curiosities.
Bags - Styles We have more than 10 different bag styles. From laptop bags and briefcases,courier bags to purses, and backpacks. All bags are available in a range of materials. Our bag line has subcategories defined by material, Limited Edition, and Special Editition. The later two categories refer to deluxe items. For example, you can have a Freya purse made mostly of bike tubes, or airbag, or upholstry, or limited edition car interiors.
The Mariclaro Limited Edition is a mark of excellence that signifies the bag was made from limited materials from a specific car. We keep the high quality seat upholstry, belts, and buckles from one car together, which will make a unique, durable bag when combined with other materials like bike tubes and exploded airbag. We provide a photo of the car the main materials came from. It applies to all our models. On our label, look for the notable red L, which is our stamp of authenticity.
Every bag by Mariclaro is one of a kind. However, our Special Edition products are created from rare materials and have even more intricate detailing. Special Editions are less car-focused than the Limited Edition. Sails, airbags, leather, industrial upholstries, and seatbelts are common in Special Editions. The bags are usually lined. On our label, look for the notable red S, which is our stamp of authenticity.
Unique Identity Each bag is marked with a serial number to mark it's unique identity and different indications on the outside to mark it's model type in the case of limited and special.
Guarantee We produce only durable and fine finished products. We assure the durability of our products by double stitching seams, and using only strong, flexible materials. All edges are finished to reflect our attention to detail. We provide a 1 year guarantee on our bags to emphasize our commitement to quality. After all, reducing waste means also making quality products to last. Consider each item an investment.
Accessories We also love photography. Film and the changing media has given way to dabbling in outdated technology. Either in sterling silver or surgical steel, the finely crafted earrings of slides, photo film and 8mm film are elegant and playful.
Bike accessories Because bikes rule, we make things to facilitate life on a bike. Tool pouches, courrier bags, hip pouches, lock holsters, refelective straps, beer holders, polo mallet clips and more. Accessories generally make your life easier and helps you organize. Interior bag organizers, key chains, pouches. We've made them, because we've needed them. It's function and aesthetic.
Clothing Line Once you start designing, the boundaries are limitless. We've designed a men's jacket from exploded airbags. The lightweight, strong material gives a space age appearance. Inspired by our Apollo 11 earrings, when bikes go to space, we will be ready. Available now for wholesale orders on demand, we are expanding our line to include a dress, vest, women's jacket and hats.
Curiosities An ode to the wood window, we make light boxes from large photos printed expensively. There's so much old stuff, why would you buy anything new? Houses need décor too. Surrounding yourself with unusual creations helps your creativity grow as well.
